Stand-up comedians have been popular since the seventies when people like Steve Martin first started entertaining on stages like the Comedy Cellar. Places like this basically made stand-up comedians famous and familiarized the world with this now famous art style. But the shows like SNL really made comedians famous. It was because of these skit shows people realized what they could accomplish with cheap sets and funny people. This is also when people like Steve Martin hosted the show and suddenly the world loved stand-up. Comedians can now be found all over the country, but especially in New York and Los Angeles. These places are basically the birthplace of modern comedy. And although New York is probably the best place to find comedians, they can still be found all over the country. In fact if you need a funny way to entertain your guests at your next party, a comedian, stand-up or otherwise, is a great way to do it. Most comedians will tailor a routine to your specific event. Beware though, many comedians rely on one-liners, so you may want to try out some of their material. Most comedians will let you come in and hear some material to see if you like it. Make sure you do, because otherwise it could be a disaster.
